This year I set myself to read 60 books by the end of the year. I’m almost there but along the way there were a few that I started but I just couldn’t finish them for one reason or another. Here are the books that I just couldn’t make it through:

This one was just kind of confusing, there was a lot going on and it wasn’t as interesting as I thought it would be. It just didn’t hold my attention. I know it’s a classic and I do plan to try again but this year I had to put it back on the shelf. Here’s to next year.

I was so disappointed with this one. I think I got halfway through it thinking there was going to be a scandalous affair but no. I googled it to see if it ended the way I was hoping and to my dismay it never gets more interesting. I just wasn’t going to put myself through that. I read Wuthering Heights by her sister, Emily Bronte and I loved it. I was hoping Charlotte was as good as her sister. Turns out, no.

So his book The Shack was amazing. This book however just wasn’t. Maybe it gets better, I don’t know. I was too bored to find out. It was just not for me.

Okay so I will admit with this one I didn’t really give it a fair chance. I liked the idea of it and I still want to try to read this one, I just couldn’t finish it. It was pretty slow to start and there were just so many other books I was really interested in reading so I will be returning to this one at some point.

Oh the great epic. I already know what happens in this one as I have studied it in a mythology class so I just wasn’t as enthusiastic about reading it. I want to read all the classics because I feel like it’s good to know them but they can be pretty boring at times. That was the case with this one. I’ll read it eventually, I just don’t know when.

What are some books you were disappointed with? What do you think of the ones in this post?

  2. Lovely post! All the best of luck with your reading goals in 2019!

If you would like (and this is totally optional) I was going to link to your blog in my next Mystery Blogger Award, as a way of linking different readers together a little easier. There’s no need to do the 5-question quiz if you’d prefer not to, but would you like your blog mentioned so new readers might check it out?

  3. My reading goal this year was 60, too! Right now I’m at 55 & knowing I won’t reach it. 😦 I hope you were able to, Cadie!

I haven’t read any of these books & I’ll probably never get through a classic in my life lol. I should’ve kept track of the books I wasn’t able to finish reading too but, I just threw them all off my bookshelf on Goodreads & completely forgot about them. Maybe next year I will keep track so I can do a similar post!

Merry Christmas, love!! Hope you have the best day!!

    • Merry Christmas to you! Mine has been interesting so far lol this is the first year my kids are fighting over toys.
Classics are hard to read sometimes, I’m honestly just reading them for bragging rights lol I hope you do a post like this next year, it’s always interesting to me to see which books people can’t get into and to see if I’ve read them.

      • Hahah oh no! I hope your boys worked it out. πŸ˜‰ Me & my sis used to fight over everything. My mom just started buying us the exact same thing every time!

The only classic I really want to read is Catcher in the Rye which boyfriend owns so I will one day & the only ones I ever finished were The Outsiders and Lord of Flies. πŸ˜› I tried to read Lolita… but it was sooo hard!

I will def try to keep track in 2019 of the books I don’t finish! I usually try to keep reading books when I don’t like them though so I’m also going to get better at giving up sooner!

  4. This is actually such a relief to read because some of these books I haven’t been able to finish up either and they are considered such classics!! The Jane Eyre ones I have a really hard time with for some reason. I will say if you can stick out 1984 one day that read is worth it- but I totally get how it can feel super confusing & even dry at times. It was mandatory for me to read it, so I’m not sure how I would have felt if I just read it voluntarily. Thanks for sharing, girl! have you even read Wuthering Heights? That’s a classic I cannot get through no matter how hard I try.
