It’s that time of year! To me there is nothing better than being at home on a cold day in comfy clothes watching nostalgic Christmas movies. Everyone is home and being lazy. You get nothing done but at least you’re relaxed. I have a list of Christmas movies that help me achieve that relaxed, happy state and these are it:
Of course these two make the cut. They’re just fun and entertaining. Who wouldn’t want to spend Christmas in a big beautiful house or in New York with money to spare? If you haven’t seen these, Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) is accidentally left at home when his family leaves the country for the holidays. He spends his time at home alone but he has a great time getting into everything, watching whatever he wants and eating whatever he wants. Things get a little intense when Kevin notices a couple of thieves taking advantage of people not being home to steal from all the homes on Kevin’s block. Little do the burglars know, Kevin has a plan to stop them. The antics are funny and great for all ages, a quality I love about Christmas movies. The second one, Kevin accidentally gets on a plane bound for New York while his family is on a completely different plane headed to Florida. With his father’s credit cards and cash Kevin stays in the Plaza hotel and has a fun time in New York, until he runs into the burglars from the first movie. Coincidence? Maybe.
I absolutely love love love this movie. It is so nostalgic for me, we watched this one all the time when I was a kid. The premise is Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) hears someone walking around on his roof so he goes to investigate. Turns out it was Santa and Scott startles him which causes Santa to fall off of the roof. Since Santa is out of action Scott must take over and finish the job, little does he know he just made a huge commitment to become the next Santa Claus. It has all the 90’s feel to it, which I love. If you haven’t seen it I hope you give it a try this year.
You either love this movie or hate it. To me it’s great. Jim Carrey did an awesome job as the Grinch. I especially love Sir Anthony Hopkins as the narrator and that they include the actual rhymes from the book. I still think it’s funny even though the humor is pretty silly and meant for a younger audience. I quote this movie quite often.
I love this version of this classic story. I actually first read this in a book of classic stories with Disney characters. The movie is exactly like the story of course. It’s just cute and the right amount of spooky for the season.
And of course all of these wonderful childhood classics.
I’m not much on Christmas movies for adults. They just seem super cheesy to me. I get the spirit with my kiddy movies just fine. I can’t wait to watch these with Cillian this year since he’s finally getting into movies. We’re going to enjoy being snuggled on the couch, drinking hot cocoa and watching Christmas movies. Let the holiday memories begin!
What are your favorite Christmas movies? Let me know in the comments!
