Since the weekend is upon us once again I thought I’d let you guys in on how I like to relax on my days off.
My perfect lazy day would be a quiet, rainy day where I could enjoy a cup of coffee while reading a book. A warm, delicious lunch of some kind of comfort food such as mac ‘n cheese or left over paprika chicken and rice. Then a nap and more reading. Then dinner with my boys, bedtime for them and a hot bubble bath for me, with candles and, you guessed it, more reading.
In the last few years I have come to learn what is most important to me and that is peace and quiet. I don’t get it very often since I have a three year old and an almost one year old. I can’t even remember what life was like before they came along. I have found things that I like to do to wind down though after a long day of craziness.

Of course reading is one of the best ways to relax. It’s nice to just lose yourself in the world and troubles of someones else for a while and not think about your own. Real life can be so draining sometimes and it’s nice to visit another world where problems are much bigger and worth going through, even if it is all just fiction. I’m currently reading The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood, and let me tell you, things could be worse. I also love to visit bookstores or libraries, anywhere I can be around books. The smell is like a tonic for me.

I love to watch YouTube videos to relax because they’re not very long. I like to watch some instructional videos or some lifestyle vlogs. Either one will distract me for a while. They’re entertaining and you can just zone out and see how other people live or learn something new.
I love taking a hot, candle lit bubble bath. It soothes my muscles and calms my nerves. I love using bath bombs or bubble bars from Lush, they are the best. I’ll put on some quiet, soothing music while I soak and just chill out. Sometimes I read, other times I just close my eyes and clear my mind. I like to do this after I put the boys down to bed so I don’t hear any screaming or destruction, it’s harder to relax when that is your background noise.

Of course getting a nap is the ultimate way to relax. I don’t get these very often because my boys never nap at the same time, but sometimes it works out. Sometimes I’m able to put the baby down for a nap and curl up with the three year old on the couch. I let him watch a movie while I snooze. I call it “quiet time”. Some days it’s just necessary.
Yoga and meditation is another favorite way of mine to relax. It stretches my body, releasing tension and pain in my muscles and joints. The breathing helps expel negative thoughts and stresses. The quiet reflection helps clear my mind and opens it up.
Any time I can just do nothing or not have to make any decisions is a relaxing time for me. The world can be pretty demanding and it’s important for you to take some time to yourself every once in a while. Especially moms. How do you like to relax? I hope everyone has a relaxing weekend!
